Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood curriculum prepares individuals to work with children from infancy through middle childhood in diverse learning environments. Students will combine learned theories with practice in actual settings with young children under the supervision of qualified teachers.

Graduates are prepared to plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs in early childhood settings. Employment opportunities include
child development and child care programs, preschools, public and private schools, recreational centers, Head Start Programs, and school age programs.

CCC&TI offers several different educational programs in this area:

Emphasis is placed on :

  • child growth and development
  • physical/nutritional needs of children
  • care and guidance of children
  • communication skills with parents and children

For more information about course descriptions or required courses, refer to the current CCC&TI Course Catalog and its corresponding Addendum. Courses in the Early Childhood program are taught during the day and evening, and some courses are available through Distance Learning.

Employment Outlook

According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook, " Employment of child care workers is projected to increase about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2014. The growth in demand for child care workers will be moderated, however, by an increasing emphasis on early childhood education programs. There also is likely to be a rise in enrollment in private preschools as the value of formal education before kindergarten becomes more widely accepted. Since the majority of workers in these programs are classified as preschool teachers, this growth in preschool enrollment will mean that relatively fewer child care workers will be needed for children old enough to participate in preschool."
