Cobra Game Highlights 2010-2011

02-16-11

The Caldwell Community college and Technical Institute mens basketball team traveled down the road Wednesday night to face NJCAA Division III fifth ranked team, Davidson County Community College, for its final game of the regular season. Davidson CC showed that they are well deserving of their ranking as they defeated the Cobras 119-66. The Storm were red hot from behind the arc as they knocked down thirteen 3-point field goals through out the contest. The Storm had 4 players to score 20 or more points. They were led in scoring by Deon Boyce with 27. The Cobras were led in scoring by Sophomore, Chris Witherspoon, who finished with 27.  Returner Jordan Wright followed with 13 while Jonathon Hines and Brandon Ford added 10 points respectively. The seeding for next weeks Region X Tournament will be released on Sunday, February 20th, 2011. The tournament will be held at Catawba Valley Community College on February 24th-26th.

02-12-11

The Cobras were able to squeak by Oxford College, in the final seconds to win 65-64, Saturday afternoon in Atlanta. The conference rivalry brought out the competitive nature in both teams, as there were 20 lead changes and 12 tied scores throughout the contest.  Conference leading scorer Chris Witherspoon was able to seal the deal at the free throw line, to give Caldwell a one point advantage with 3 seconds left in regulation.  Witherspoon led all scores with 23 points, while Jordan Wright finished with 19 points and grabbed down 10 rebounds. Freshmen Rumeal Joshua and Brandon Ford were also key to the Cobras victory. Joshua scored 10 points and Ford added 10 rebounds.  The Cobras are now 12-14 on the season and 4-5 in the Conference. Caldwell will be back in action Sunday afternoon in South Carolina as they face Limestone College J.V. team at 2 p.m.

The Caldwell Cobras dropped their fifth conference game of the season, in a 90-70 loss to Central Carolina College, Thursday night in Sanford NC. The Cougars took a 37-30 advantage into half time and continued to build their lead in the second half. Valenta Battle was a big part of Central Carolinas offense. Battle led all scores with 29 points, while pulling down 13 rebounds. The Cobras were led in scoring by Jordan Wright and Chris Witherspoon with 20 points each. Brandon Ford added 10 points off the bench, just before fouling out. The Cobras don't have much of a break, before they travel on the road to Atlanta, to face Oxford College on Saturday at 2 p.m.

02-08-11

The Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute men's basketball team closed out their final home game of the season in victorious fashion. The Cobras defeated the Belmont Abbey JV Crusaders 78-59 on Tuesday night. Sophomores Chris Witherspoon, Jordan Wright, and Jonathon Hines closed out their last home game with a bang! Witherspoon led all scores with 26, while Jordan Wright and Jonathon Hines finished with 16 and 15 respectively. Freshmen Brandon Ford and Wayne Wray were dominant on the boards. Ford pulled down 12 rebounds while Wray followed with ll. The Cobras travel to Pittsboro, NC, Thursday night to face Central Carolina Community College in conference play.

02-05-11

Caldwell Cobras were no match for the #9 nationally ranked division III JUCO.  The Sandhills Flyers spanked the Cobras 107 to 83 Saturday evening on their home floor in Hudson. The Cobras were led in scoring by Sophomore Jordan Wright, who finished with a game high 22. Chris Witherspoon followed with 20 points and Jonathon Hines added 16. Cobras record is now 10-13 on the season and 3-4  in conference play. Cobras have their final home game of the season Tuesday night against Belmont Abbey JV team at 7pm. 

02-02-11

Cobras traveled to Virginia Wednesday night with seven players, but finished the game with only four. Jonathon Hines, Wayne Wray, and Brandon Ford were all disqualified from the game after receiving five fouls each against Wytheville Community College. That didn't stop the undermanned Cobras from fighting to the end of regulation. Rumeal Joshua was fouled and sent to the line with .01 second left in regulation with the score tied at 79.  Joshua missed both shots at the charity stripe, and the game went into overtime. Wytheville took full advantage of the Cobras disqualifications and out scored Caldwell 20-6 in the extra session. Chris Witherspoon finished the game with a double-double.  Witherspoon scored a career high 41 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds. The Cobras were defeated 85 to 99 in overtime. 

01-31-11

After suffering a loss over the weekend to Pasco-Hernando Community College out of Florida, the Caldwell Cobras were able to bounce back in winning form. Cobras defeated Limestone College J.V.  team 87-71, on their home floor, Monday night.  Sophomore and Hibriten graduate Chris Witherspoon led all scores with 27.   Jordan Wright was also able to finish with a strong performance, rounding out a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Kings Mountain native, Jonathon Hines, ended the game with 15 points. Cobras hit the road Wednesday night, for a make-up conference game against Wytheville Community College. Caldwell's overall record is 10-11 on the season and 3-2 in the conference. 

01-28-11

Despite being evenly matched at the half with 36 points a-piece, the Caldwell Cobras fall to Pasco-Hernando Community College 83-67, on their home floor Friday night in Hudson.  The Division II basketball program out of Florida was led in scoring by freshmen guard Pedro Foster with 20 points.  The Cobras had two players to reach double figures. Chris Witherspoon finished with a game-high 24 points, while Jordan Wright followed scoring 21. Cobras are now 9-11 on the season, and face Limestone College JV on Monday January 31st at 7 p.m.

01-23-11

On Saturday the Cobras' won their third conference game as they defeated Central Carolina Community College in a 98-86 victory.  The Cobras' were led by sophomores Chris Witherspoon and Lamont Everett both scoring 28 points each.  Caldwell Cobras were in action again on Sunday for their 2nd game in back to back nights, as they took a road trip for a non-conference match up versus Belmont Abby College J.V.  Cobras were down 44-38 at the half.  Second half charge was led by sophomore guard Chris Witherspoon, who finished with a game high 37 points.  Returners Jordan Wright followed with 12 points and Jonathon Hines added 10. Salisbury native Brandon Ford added a big spark off the bench reaching double-figures with 11.  Caldwell's second half run capped off a 93-84 victory over the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey. Cobra's are winners of three of their last four games improving their record to 9-10 on the season. The Cobras' will return to action on the road, Wednesday, January 26, against Wytheville Community College

01-19-11

The Davidson Community College Storm proved to be too much Wednesday night against the Caldwell Cobras.  The Cobras played with Davidson for the first half going into the intermission down 56-45.  However the Storm, ranked the number one team in the National Junior College Division III level, used their size and speed to wear down Caldwell and cruise to a 101-74 victory.  Caldwell was led by Lamont Everett and Chris Witherspoon who had 31 and 21 respectively.  Davidson was led by Justin Glover who had 26 along with Maurice Nash who added 22.  The Cobras, who have had four games in six days, will have two days off to prepare for Central Carolina Community College who they host Saturday afternoon at 3:00. 

01-17-11

Cobras take the win tonight on their home court against Clinton Junior College with an 80-77 victory.  Caldwell went into the half with a 43-33 lead.  Even though the Cobras had a substantial 10 point lead, the Golden Bears came back strong and tied the game up on more than one occasion. Clinton fought hard, but the Cobras ultimately wanted the win more.  Caldwell showed their determination out rebounding Clinton 26 to 25.  The Cobras' were led in scoring by Chris Witherspoon with 24 points, as Jordan Wright added 18, followed by Lamont Everett with 14 points.  Clinton's Marcus Jeffries led with 20 points along with Dwain Edwards who had 16 points for the Bears.  Cobras will be back in action on their home court in conference play, Wednesday night, against Davidson Community College. 

01-15-11

Caldwell Tech and Sandhills Community College had themselves a good old fashion shootout Saturday evening in Pinehurst, NC.  The two teams combined for an unbelievable 244 points at the end of regulation. Caldwell's undefeated record in conference play was ended by the Flyers in a hard fought 124 to 120 contest.  There was a well balanced scoring attack for the Cobras, led by Hibriten graduate Chris Witherspoon. Witherspoon finished with a career high 38 points, making 6 of 9 3-point field goals.  Charlotte native Lamont Everett had his best game of the season, coming off the bench to score a season high 29 points.  Sophomore forward Jordan Wright filled up the stat sheet with 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals.  Cobras took a commanding 57 to 51 lead going into the half, but the Flyers took full advantage of their height and athletic ability in the 2nd half to give Caldwell its first conference loss.  Cobras don't have much of a break, as there back in action at home on Monday at 7 p.m. against Clinton Junior College.

01-13-11

After taking an 8-pont lead into halftime, the Caldwell Cobras came out in the 2nd half looking like a team on a mission. The Cobras were able to stretch their lead by as many as 32-points in the 2nd half, to finish the game with a 91 to 65 win over Milligan College JV on Thursday night in Tennessee. All four Sophomores for Caldwell scored in double-figures, lead by Chris Witherspoon with a game high 24 points. Returner Jordan Wright followed with 19, while Lamont Everett scored 18 points off the bench and also pulled down 8 rebounds. Point guard Jonathon Hines chipped in with 13 points and 4 steals. Cobras have won 3 of it's last 4 games and has increased their overall record to 6-8 on the season. Cobras return back to conference play Saturday, when they travel down the road to take on Sandhills Community College.

01-08-11

The Caldwell Cobras claimed a victory in a double overtime game Saturday afternoon versus Oxford College, in a 85 to 79 thriller. The Cobras were led in scoring by Caldwell County local Chris Witherspoon, who finished with 25 points. The Cobras took control of the game early on to go up as many as 12 points, but the Oxford Eagles were able to even the score up at 31 a piece going into the half. Lamont Everrett, who finished with 17 points, was fouled and sent to the line with 27 seconds left on the clock, with the Cobras holding on to a 1 pont lead. After making both free throws, the Oxford Eagles called a timeout to set up a play for there final possession. Stephen Simmons 3-pointer from the left wing caught the bottom of the net to force the game into overtime. Caldwell was down 7 points with 1:53 left on the clock in the overtime session, but the cobras didn't give up and forced a second overtime. The Cobras took full control of the second overtime period, never looked back to win and improve their record to 5-8 on the season and 2-0 in the conference. Returner Jordan Wright also finished in double-figures with 12 points, after seeing limited minutes due to foul trouble. Cobras travel to Milligan College on Thursday January 13th.

11-23-10

In a hard fought out game in Rock Hill, SC the Cobras go home in a losing effort 89 to 78.  The Cobras had great production from their reserve play. Trent Turner came off the bench for a career-high 26 points, while Charles Morrison found his touch in the 2nd Half to finish with 17 points. Sophomore Lamont Everett was also solid, reaching double-figures with 11 points. Caldwell Cobras has a short break over the Thanksgiving holidays and will be in action for its second home game of the year, against cross-town rival Catawba Valley Community College at 7 pm.

11-19-10

The Caldwell Cobras took their third loss of the season on the road, in an 81 to 67 defeat by Rockingham Community College. The Cobras trailed much of the game, going into the locker room down 38-34 at the half. The Eagles got out to a quick run in the 2nd half, not allowing the Cobras to get any closer. The Eagles had three players score in double figures, led by Jerome Garrett’s 25 points. The Caldwell Cobras were led by Chris Witherspoon, who scored 17 points. Lamont Everett followed with 16 points and Jordan Wright added 13. The Cobras don't get much rest as they take the road again Saturday night versus Queen City Prep in Charlotte, North Carolina.

11-15-10

Caldwell Cobras came  from behind a two-point halftime deficit to win 89-75, in it's home opener against Milligan College JV.  Cobras had four different players post double digits in the scoring column.  Reserve Charles Morrison came off the bench to lead all scores with 27.  Lenoir local, Chris Witherspoon finished with 17 points, after being in foul trouble much of the night. Returning player, Jordan Wright had a solid night, finishing with 15 points.  While Lamont Everett had another strong effort on the boards, finishing with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Cobras are back on the road again this weekend for a two game skid, when they travel to Rockingham Community College on Friday and Queen City Prep on Saturday.  

11-13-10 Montreat JV

Caldwell Cobras get first win of the season on the road at Montreat College, in a 91-71 victory over the Cavaliers JV. Lamont Everett lead all scores with 26 points, while Chris Witherspoon followed with 23 points. Trent Turner came off the bench for the Cobras to add 12 points. Caldwell improved there record to 1-2 for the season and are back in action for there first home game Monday evening at 6:30 PM, when they take on Milligan College JV.
